Wardrobe Essentials All Women Should Have or Work on Obtaining

I have compiled a list of what I believe to be wardrobe essentials. These are the basic items that all other outfits are built upon. These are the core items I believe you should spend money on because quality items oftentimes last more than inexpensive ones (not all the time but the majority of) I don't suggest you go broke buying these items but I do ask that you put aside money from time to time in order to purchase them.

Fitted Black Blazer, Classic White Shirt, Little Black Dress, Dark Skinny Jeans (and no you don't have to be 10lbs to wear them) Black Pumps, Nude Pumps, Business Suit, Cashmere Cardigan (or Merino if cashmere is not even close to being in your budget), Pencil Skirt, Leather Jacket, Trench Coat, Accessories (Diamond Studs, Gold Hoops, Mens wear inspired steel watch) Sunglasses, Investment Bag (Chanel 2.55 or Louis Vuitton)

Take inventory of your closet see if you have what's on this list. If you do and they're still in good condition than great so just add other interesting items to your wardrobe. If you don't have the above items or a few of the above items make a list of what you don't have and just work on adding these to your existing wardrobe. Again DO NOT GO BROKE attaining the above items there is NOTHING wrong with adding little by little. Quality is better than quantity. I rather have eight timeless pieces that will last me years then a closet full of clothes that will fall apart after a few washes.

Inspiration Boards

I had a rather interesting weekend I stayed in bed all day because I was sick as a dog along with my boyfriend who had food poisoning due to some bad salsa he ate. I was pretty upset because as my fellow New Yorkers know this weekend was really great weatherwise. So I decided to add more pics to my inspiration board. An inspiration board for those who don't already know is a board (oak tag, bulletin board) in which you can take pictures, post cards, anything that inspires you or speaks to you in some way and you tack them to the board. It could fabric swatches in colors and textures that are appealing to you, it could be a post card of Tuscany because one day you want to visit there or you already have and its beauty stayed with you, pictures of movie stars past and present whose style you admire, pictures of clothing, shoes, design ideas you have, etc. The list goes on it's all about what resonates with you. Designers have these sorts of boards as well its been said it helps them with future collections. They'll have pictures of models, fabric swatches, photos of cities, and anything else that gets their creative juices flowing.

I encourage everyone  to start an inspiration board. Purchase a bulletin board and start tacking up what you want, if you don't have room for one then purchase a scrap book and do the same.  When you see your inspiration in front of you instead of filed away in your brain you're more likely to acheive the goals that you see on that board or in that scrap book. Go crazy with it if you want to sprinkler glitter all over your board and attach feathers to it go for it! It's all about you don't worry about it looking like a kindergarten drawing project it's yours to do with as you wish. Don't worry about anyone judging your work because if they do just tell them it's sad that you don't have any inspiration in your life you should work on that because that's what I'm doing and it's fucking great!

P.S. The example of the above inspiration board was from savvychic.blog.files.wordpress.com (by the way great site)

QUOTE OF THE DAY!

My dad told me this while when I was angry at certain person....

"Animosity  is the poison you drink while waiting for the other person to die"

In essense we kill ourselves wishing all that hell can spit forth onto a person that has wronged us and while it's hard not to do that it's best that we don't because while we busy ourselves wishing the worst on our "enemies" they're sitting around fucking up and doing the same retarded shit that makes them the oh so special asshole they are. No one is worth losing sleep, weight, or hair over EVER! I don't care how great he or she looks, how good he or she was in bed, etc because what it all boils down to is no one on this planet holds that much weight that their absence from our lives should devestate us. It feels like that but trust me its a fleeting emotion we can liken it to heart burn it feels like a muthafucking heart attack but bitch please...it's just gas :)

Vogue Paris March 2010

How fucking beautiful is this shot? This is from the Vogue Paris March issue shot by David Sims. She's completely hardcore and sexy in such an androgynous way.  The model's name is Iselin Steiro.

Vogue March 2010 Issue

Vogue is covering fashion bloggers how amazing is that? Blogging about fashion is the future of fashion insight when these bloggers capture style on streets around the world letting us average Joes into the universe that is fashion and style. We now have access to look at styles from around the globe, piecing together looks to make them our own because there is nothing worse than copying a look just because it's in season that you know you're not truly comfortable in. Guys pick up this issue it's great!!

MICHAEL KORS FASHION WEEK 2010

Michael Kors designs has always refelected timeless opulance his designs are very lux. He focused on using neutral colors which we know are big this spring. I loved the camel and other muted shades. I'm not a fur wearer but I have to give credit where it's due and the fur accents whether it be on the purses or full on coats were AMAZING. It was very classic and chic. The menswear collection was great as well.  The great thing about Michael Kors is that you can recreate his looks on the cheap by going to say Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, etc. I' ve included some photos that I viewed on the Los Angeles Times Web Site since I did not have the priviledge of viewing this great collection first hand (weeping silently over my bagel)

If You Have To Cry Go Outside!!! Kelly Cutrone

So if you haven't heard about Kelly Cutrone then you must not be that into fashion (kidding) but she's the woman to know in the fashion public relations business. She's balls to walls tough but there's a method to her madness. I don't think she's a bitch she's an efficient woman and she expects everyone around her to do the same or at least make a concious effort to be efficient. You have to respect her grit because lets be honest the fashion business doesn't strike me as forgiving you either make her your wife or leave her alone because she won't allow herself to be the mistress. So of course I had to pick up her book entitled If You Have to Cry Go Outside And Other Things Your Mother Never Told You. I have never felt so empowered she doesn't water down her message for women she makes no apologies for being brash because that's exactly what got her to the level of success that she currently enjoys.

She's alpha dog but willing to share her water bowl. She compares herself to a mama wolf protecting her pack. (interns, assistants, etc) I'm sure you've seen female wolves on nature shows who are protective of their children but will nip at them if they get out of place but what it boils down to is that she'll protect them when the need arises. You have to respect an employer like that.

I've always loved the idea of working in the fashion field I don't care if it's fetching coffee, making copies, cleaning up,etc these are the dues you have to pay to get into the field you feel you were made for.  For the sake of fashion I'm willing to sacrifice a lot and that's what she touched on as well. If you're wanting to get into this business you have to check your ego at the door. Who cares if you went to an Ivy League when you walk through your employers doors you're nothing, your degree is not worth the paper its printed on if you're NOT willing to do the work that's asked of you. If that means staying in the office till late at night then you do it call your loved ones and tell them you won't be home for dinner because Kelly needs me. I for sure would love to hear those words come out of my mouth. :)
